How to organize a funeral in Plovdiv — step by step
From the first call to the final detail — clear steps for a dignified funeral in Plovdiv.
Losing someone close is one of life’s hardest experiences. In those first days, families must make many decisions quickly, often while grieving deeply.
This article explains what needs to be done and in what order — so you can organize a funeral in Plovdiv with dignity and less stress.
Step 1 — Notify the authorities
When a death occurs, the first step is to notify the relevant institutions.
Death at home: call the family doctor or emergency services (112). The physician issues a medical death certificate — required for all further steps.
Death in hospital: the hospital notifies authorities and issues necessary documents. Contact hospital administration for details.
Unknown cause of death: police and the prosecutor’s office are involved automatically. An autopsy may be required before a death certificate is issued.
For a full document checklist, see Documents required after a death in Bulgaria.
Step 2 — Contact a funeral agency
A funeral agency coordinates everything that follows — transport, documents, coffin or urn, wreaths, and the ceremony.
Questions to ask when choosing an agency:
- Is service available 24/7?
- What does the package include and what is the final price?
- Is transport included?
- Do they help with paperwork?
At Seven Heaven we work around the clock and take over full organization from your first call.
Step 3 — Gather required documents
You will typically need:
- Medical death certificate — issued by a physician
- Death certificate — issued by the municipality of permanent residence
- Deceased’s ID — for identification
- Burial permit — issued by the municipality after the death certificate
Death abroad requires additional documents from the respective country. We assist in all cases.
Step 4 — Choose the type of service
Traditional burial: the coffin is placed in the ground. Viewing, religious or civil service, then procession to the cemetery. See our funeral packages.
Cremation: the body is cremated and ashes placed in an urn. A farewell ceremony may be held beforehand. The urn may be kept in a columbarium or cemetery. Details: cremation services.
Step 5 — Plan the ceremony
The ceremony may include:
- Viewing — at a funeral home, residence, or church
- Religious or civil service — according to family wishes
- Procession — to the cemetery
- Burial — placing the coffin in the grave
Step 6 — Wreaths and flowers
Wreaths and flowers are an important part of the farewell. Options include:
- Fresh wreaths with ribbon and inscription
- Floral arrangements for the coffin
- Artificial wreaths for the grave
Our partner venec.bg offers a wide selection with fast delivery.
Step 7 — Obituaries
Obituaries inform relatives, friends, and colleagues of the loss. We prepare obituaries according to your text and preferred format.
